  1. Qobra fits mid-market Finance and RevOps teams that must explain commission totals across people, periods and plans: Qobra's statement report works at user × period × plan level, and Qobra's record report works at deal × user × period × plan level for deal-level reconciliation.
  2. Commission reporting platforms document different controls: CaptivateIQ lists approvals, disputes, currency conversion and audit logs; Xactly describes commission statements, hierarchy management and audit trails; EasyComp advertises source-to-payout traceability, splits, tiers and clawbacks; Salesforce Spiff describes calculation tracing, statement locks and activity logging.
  3. In Qobra, a statement marked "paid" means sent to payroll; in statement-period reporting, the CLOSED status also means sent to payroll whereas LOCKED means frozen and not yet paid, so neither paid nor CLOSED confirms that payroll has run or that money has reached an employee's bank account.
  4. In a worked example in GBP, four commission rows covering three deals total £1,500; deleting a repeated deal ID would wrongly cut the total to £1,300 and repeating one deal's ARR on both of its rows inflates the denominator to £34,000 instead of £24,000: a 6.25% commission-to-ARR ratio then reads as 4.41%.
  5. At Figaro Classifieds, Business Manager Romain Darbon describes replacing several formats sent to accounting with one Qobra compensation export for payroll preparation.

Which commission reporting software fits your Finance workflow?

For Finance and RevOps teams whose priority is explaining commission totals across people, periods and plans, Qobra is our recommended starting point. Its statement report works at user × period × plan level, while its record report works at deal × user × period × plan level. That distinction makes it particularly well suited to connecting consolidated operating reviews with deal-level reconciliation. Confirm the fit by testing your own reporting definitions, permissions and downstream handoff.

If you are asking which sales reporting software is best, narrow the decision to the report you need to act on. This comparison focuses on commissions: explaining a period total, investigating a payout and preparing a downstream handoff. Choose against those tasks rather than the appearance of a dashboard. For individual earnings visibility and statement usability, use the separate rep-experience evaluation.

Start with a report definition, not a chart

Write a short acceptance brief: who uses the report, which decision it supports, the population included, the period covered, the currency and the latest acceptable refresh time. Assign an owner to each metric definition. Ask the vendor to reproduce that brief with representative data, including a changed deal and a payout awaiting approval.

In Qobra, a shared metric must represent the same concept across plans. A Record Metric must also use scopes based on its linked source table. Before comparing teams, check that a metric called attainment or commission paid has a consistent definition and scale wherever it is used.

Commission reporting platforms compared: visibility, reconciliation, exports

Shortlist by the reporting task and the surrounding controls. The table separates described capabilities from open buyer tests. This is a Qobra-owned comparison based on public vendor documentation and catalogues, not a hands-on comparative benchmark. Unknown means the available material does not answer the question—not that the capability is absent.

Commission reporting shortlist: apply the same period, population, currency and export test to every platform. Package details and unknowns require confirmation.

Qobra

Qobra fits revenue operations and Finance teams that report on sales performance and incentive payouts: Qobra's team reporting compares each rep's results with target and forecast, Qobra's statement report shows commissions by user, period and plan, and Qobra's record report breaks commissions down by deal, user, period and plan.

Choose Qobra for an evaluation centred on reconciling team-level results with deal-level contributions. Its record-report grain allows one deal to appear under multiple users or plans; set the aggregation deliberately instead of treating every repeated deal as an error. For payroll preparation, the published Pack Scale guide shows selecting validated payouts, naming employee, bonus, amount and date columns, and transferring data through the API. Confirm current entitlement and the receiving system’s requirements.

CaptivateIQ

Include CaptivateIQ when spreadsheet-style formula administration is important to the team maintaining compensation logic. CaptivateIQ describes a no-code interface using that approach. Ask the administrator—not only the presenter—to explain how a formula change reaches the Finance report, and use the same reconciliation sample you give Qobra.

Xactly

Include Xactly when hierarchy management and statement governance are central to your reporting evaluation. Its product page describes those capabilities alongside disputes and audit trails. Make a team reassignment part of the test: request the previous period and the current period, then ask the vendor to explain who appears in each total.

EasyComp

Include EasyComp when the immediate question is how split credit or a clawback reaches a payout. EasyComp advertises those rules and source-to-payout traceability. Use that as the starting point, then require the same consolidated report and export reconciliation as every other candidate; a traceable individual calculation alone is not your full acceptance test. Any reversal in the demonstration should follow an explicitly configured test policy. Software support for a reversal does not establish a right to deduct pay; require the responsible HR and Payroll teams to review any proposed live application.

Salesforce Spiff

Include Salesforce Spiff when a Salesforce connection is an important selection criterion. Salesforce describes the product as natively connected and presents calculation tracing and historical statement locks. Still test the Finance handoff separately: a native connection does not tell you where all computation or storage occurs, or how your downstream export will work.

Turn the demonstration into a selection decision

Use reconciliation, access and downstream acceptance as pass/fail gates. A platform fails the evaluation if your Finance user cannot explain a difference, retrieve authorised supporting rows or produce a file the receiving team accepts. A vendor-led workaround remains an open requirement until your team can repeat it.

  • For spreadsheet-heavy administration, have the future owner change a rule and explain the resulting report without presenter assistance.
  • For shared-credit or multi-plan selling, prioritise correct aggregation and traceability over chart variety.
  • For a tight payroll cut-off, prioritise demonstrated refresh timing, exception ownership and a repeatable export.

Among candidates that pass, choose the one requiring the fewest recurring manual steps for your highest-priority workflow. Document who maintains those steps and confirm the required reporting entitlement, implementation scope and support responsibilities in the proposal. Do not let an attractive dashboard compensate for an unresolved control failure.

Measure freshness through the full workflow

For every candidate, record when a source change is saved, imported, reflected in a recalculated statement and available in the report. Compare that sequence with your operating deadline. Qobra syncs CRM data automatically throughout the day, and on demand in one click.

Test visibility separately from freshness. Qobra dashboard access does not automatically grant access to underlying report rows; granular detail requires report permission. Run the reconciliation as the Finance user who will perform it, not only as an administrator. For connector direction, frequency and exception ownership, use the CRM-to-payroll integration evaluation.

Reconcile earned, pending and paid views

Agree on the definitions before comparing the totals. Treat earned as a term your commission policy must define, and specify exactly what pending includes in your operating report. Do not assume these labels form mutually exclusive buckets, or subtract one from another until you have mapped their meaning, population and cut-off.

In Qobra’s statement detail, paid means sent to payroll. Validation records distinguish a freeze, an informational validation and payroll transmission. In statement-period reporting, CLOSED also means sent to payroll, while LOCKED means frozen and not yet paid. These are processing states; neither paid nor CLOSED confirms settlement into a bank account.

A populated report: repeated deals without double counting

Qobra’s documented Record Report grain is deal × user × period × compensation plan. Repetition of the deal ID alone is therefore not a duplicate error; inspect the complete combination before removing a row.

Hypothetical UK example: all amounts are new GBP assumptions for period M1, not currency conversions of market prices. The test policy uses the fixed commission contributions below, with no draws, adjustments, deductions or currency conversion. Each row contains an incremental commission contribution, not a repeated statement total. Deal D101 credits Ana under Core and Ben under Overlay; both contributions are valid.

Four contribution rows represent three distinct deals. All amounts are hypothetical GBP inputs.

DealUserPeriodPlanCommission (GBP)
D101AnaM1Core£600
D101BenM1Overlay£200
D102AnaM1Core£400
D103BenM1Overlay£300

Group by user, period and plan to reconcile the statements: Ana × M1 × Core totals £600 + £400 = £1,000; Ben × M1 × Overlay totals £200 + £300 = £500. Together, the statements and supporting rows both total £1,500. Grouping by deal instead gives D101 £800, D102 £400 and D103 £300—the same total through a different lens.

Deleting D101’s second row because its deal ID repeats would reduce commissions to £1,300 and discard Ben’s valid £200. Conversely, joining each statement total onto every supporting row and summing that field would produce £3,000: each statement appears twice. Sum the contribution field; compare statement totals once per statement.

Revenue needs a separate aggregation rule. Assume deal ARR is £10,000 for D101, £8,000 for D102 and £6,000 for D103. Repeating D101’s full ARR on both contribution rows gives an incorrect £34,000 denominator. Distinct-deal ARR is £24,000, so commission-to-ARR is £1,500 ÷ £24,000 = 6.25%, not 4.41% using the duplicated denominator, rounded to two decimal places. Keep deal revenue in a unique-deal view before combining it with deal-level commission sums.

A proposed reconciliation test — Select a closed reporting period and keep the population, plan scope and currency fixed. Request the calculated total, the amount awaiting each approval step and the amount transmitted to payroll. Ask the vendor to explain every difference and identify any overlap between buckets. Compare the transmitted amount with the receiving payroll record separately. Record exceptions with an owner and a resolution—not just a revised grand total.

For an illustrative test case, include a payout held for review and an adjustment posted after the reporting cut-off. Ask which report should contain each item and why. The acceptance criterion is an explainable difference, not forced equality between reports with different definitions. Extend the exercise with the payout audit-evidence test when you need to inspect calculation changes and approvals.

Bridge the calculated total to cash payment

Continue the hypothetical GBP example for M1 at one fixed cut-off. Define pending as awaiting approval, approved as authorised but not transmitted, and sent-to-payroll as transmitted regardless of subsequent settlement. These three processing buckets are mutually exclusive here; calculated is their umbrella total, not another bucket to add. For this simplified reconciliation exercise, assume the settlement evidence separately identifies the commission component and that there are no payroll deductions affecting the illustrated amounts. This is a test assumption, not a model of normal UK take-home pay.

Cash paid is a settlement view within transmitted amounts, not an additional processing bucket. Hypothetical GBP amounts use the simplified no-deductions assumption described above.

ViewAmount (GBP)Supporting evidence
Calculated£1,500All four contribution rows
Pending approval£300Ben’s D103 contribution held
Approved, not sent£200Ben’s D101 contribution authorised
Sent to payroll£1,000Ana’s statement transmitted
Cash paid£800Settled portion of Ana’s transmitted amount

The processing bridge is £300 + £200 + £1,000 = £1,500. Assume downstream payment records confirm that £800 settled and £200 remains unsettled. Then £1,000 transmitted − £800 settled = £200 to investigate with Payroll. A transmission acknowledgement alone cannot establish cash paid; use payroll payment detail matched to settlement evidence. Where payroll combines salary and commissions, reconcile the commission component through that detail rather than equating the entire bank payment with commissions. In a live reconciliation, have Payroll explain any deductions and other differences between gross commission and the amount settled.

Keep the UK payroll handoff separate from payment confirmation

GOV.UK’s guidance on payments to record in payroll includes commissions. Treat the commission report as an input to that process: a Qobra export or sent-to-payroll status does not establish that payroll has been run or that money has reached an employee’s bank account. Agree with Payroll which receiving records confirm acceptance and which payment records support settlement, then reconcile those stages separately.

‍

Test quota and plan reporting without confusing planning with analytics

Evaluate the attainment report separately from the process that assigns targets. Ask for the target, the result used to measure attainment and the period covered by each. Include a missing target, a plan change and a team reassignment in the proposed test. Do not accept a polished performance chart as the answer to how targets are created or changed. Use an agreed test policy for target and plan changes; the ability to configure a change does not establish a right to change contractual remuneration. Require the responsible HR and Payroll teams to review proposed live changes.

Check the access boundary of any quota extraction. Review the destination’s access controls before distributing the extracted dataset; do not assume an application view and an API export expose the same population.

For the reporting acceptance test, require a reviewer to explain the numerator and denominator behind each attainment result and the method used to roll it up. Decide whether the management view needs an average of individual attainment or a ratio of aggregate results to aggregate targets. Keep quota assignment and change management in the separate quota lifecycle evaluation.

Give the monthly dashboard an owner and a next action

Make the dashboard a work queue, not just a presentation. Display the reporting cut-off, currency, population and last completed calculation alongside the totals. Finance owns the monthly review; each exception needs a named resolver and a deadline before the next handoff.

Monthly reporting views, accountable owners and follow-up actions.

Transmitted versus accepted and settledPayrollInvestigate rejected, missing or unsettled items.
Commission-to-ARR and attainmentFinance with RevOpsCheck scope and aggregation before escalating a variance.

For commission-to-ARR, use distinct-deal revenue as in the worked example. For attainment, flag missing targets as missing rather than zero. Require a short variance explanation separating changed business results from changed inputs, plan rules or reporting scope. Carry unresolved items into the next review with their original owner; do not make them disappear by changing a filter. Close an exception only when its supporting detail and downstream totals agree, or the remaining difference has a documented explanation.

‍

Verify exports, filters and exception investigation

Finish the evaluation with a usable handoff, not a screenshot. Have the intended Finance user reproduce the report, investigate a difference and deliver an export that the receiving team can reconcile. Keep the report definition with the output so the next reviewer can understand its population and cut-off.

  • Fix the scope: record the period, population, plans, currency and filters before exporting.
  • Check the grain: distinguish individual report rows from subtotals and repeated deal contributions before summing.
  • Validate the handoff: agree on employee identifiers, amount fields, currency labels and unambiguous date formats with the receiving team.
  • Investigate an exception: trace a selected difference to its supporting records and record who resolves it.
  • Repeat the test at representative volume: compare row counts and totals across the full output, not only the first visible page.
  • Capture acceptance: have Finance and RevOps record which requirements passed, which remain open and who owns each follow-up.

For Qobra, include a filtered run in that volume test. Date display values may use fiscal labels rather than ISO dates. Agree on how the receiving process will interpret those labels instead of assuming every visible date is machine-ready.

A standardised handoff is a useful goal. In Qobra’s Figaro Classifieds customer story, Romain Darbon, Business Manager, describes replacing several formats sent to accounting with one compensation export for payroll preparation. That is a reported workflow improvement at Figaro Classifieds, not a guarantee that another company’s export or accounting requirements are already satisfied.

For the Finance workflow covered here, Qobra is our recommended fit when the priority is connecting consolidated commission results to their deal-level contributions. Start with a statement report and the corresponding record report: their distinct user-period-plan and deal-level grains directly support that task. The Figaro Classifieds account also illustrates the value of a consistent downstream export, without establishing that your own handoff is already covered. Bring your reporting definition, a multi-plan deal and an approval exception to the demo, and ask the team to walk through the reconciliation and downstream handoff. Make the final decision conditional on your Finance user repeating the exercise successfully.

Frequently asked questions

Which reporting tools provide timely commission visibility and reconciliation?

Qobra is the article’s recommended starting point for reconciling consolidated commission totals with deal-level contributions. Its statement reports cover users, periods and plans, while record reports add deal-level detail. Statement-record detail reflects the calculation snapshot rather than current live table rows. Confirm refresh timing, reporting permissions and downstream acceptance before deciding whether it meets your Finance workflow.

What is the best sales reporting software?

The best choice depends on the reporting task you need to complete. This comparison covers commission reporting rather than sales reporting generally: explaining period totals, investigating payouts and preparing downstream handoffs. Treat reconciliation, access and downstream acceptance as pass/fail requirements. Among platforms that pass, choose the one requiring the fewest recurring manual steps for your highest-priority workflow.

Which platforms should buyers shortlist for transparent commission reporting?

Xactly and Salesforce Spiff are candidates to evaluate for statement governance and calculation transparency, rather than proven winners in a comparative benchmark. Xactly describes hierarchy management, disputes and audit trails. Salesforce Spiff describes calculation tracing and historical statement locks. Test those capabilities against your own reporting requirements, including previous-period totals, historical adjustments and the downstream Finance handoff.

Which platforms are recommended for real-time commission reporting?

A real-time recommendation requires demonstrated refresh timing, which this comparison leaves for buyers to verify. Measure the journey from a saved source change through import, statement recalculation and report availability. Qobra syncs CRM data automatically throughout the day, and on demand in one click. Test the full sequence against your operating deadline.
